The Last Drink of the Night

Good days come to an end
Its time to let the reality in
Peace and joy take a detour
What lies ahead are sighs and chagrin.

How did the days pass us by?
When did sunshine bid goodbye?
Captured in frames of reminiscence
Feels like decades have gone by.

The heart will no more ring
With the merry laughter of fantasy
The warmth of the fireplace is not enough
Nor is the blissfulness of glee.

Petals of the rose are wilting away
Its scent causing the nostalgia to swell
The hourglass proves merciful though
Sparing a second for a lone farewell.

Baby, the night is ageing
But we are still ripe and young
The carriage of destiny awaits
Only to bring us back where we belong.
