Kohli is THE Man!

What a win! I mean, WHAT.A.WIN! Phew! I'm sure every single Indian is going to remember this for a really, REALLY long time.
Whenever it comes to a match between India and Pakistan, it's always like a world war, and today was no different.
Pakistan started amazingly well by winning the toss, and electing to bat. Putting up an awesome total, they really put India under a lot of pressure, as 330 was not an easy target to chase. Indians were holding their breath, chanting prayers, wondering what's gonna be the outcome. Sachin and Gambhir began the chase, and with Gambhir getting out at the very second ball, it was definitely a bad start. Then came Kohli, and thus began an impeccable partnership. Sachin made his half century, and got out with a decent total, and Kohli and Rohit Sharma were left to save India, but by then, Kohli had made it clear that with him still in the game, India had no reason to worry. Kohli and Rohit too, made a brilliant partnership, and Kohli kept on hitting his masterstrokes, making the boundaries seem like a walk in the park, completing not only a century, but almost a double century, and left gracefully with a whopping total of 183 of just 148 balls, with 22 fours and a six! *bows down*

India was just 12 runs away from victory, and that was very easily achieved by Dhoni and Raina, and what followed was crazy celebration, cause India had achieved something that hadn't been achieved till date.
Kudos to Sachin and Rohit for some brilliant cricket, and as for Virat Kohli- you're the future of Indian Cricket! :D I'm sure this day is gonna be sealed in the history of Cricket, forever. :)
Now, let's just hope we make it to the finals. *fingers crossed*
Till then, Happy Cricketing! :) and loads of hugs and kisses to Kohli ;) :D
Loads of Love,
Sayantani Sarkar.

What a Kahaani!

"Dil ka bazaar hai, thoda bizzare hai
Kolkata khwaishon armaano ka achaar hai
Aami shotti bolchi, aami shotti bolchi
Shotti shotti shotti shotti shotti bolchi.."

After what seems like a really long time, I finally watched a good, sensible Hindi movie. Yes, I'd gone for 'Kahaani' today. From the promos itself the film seemed quite different and promising. And with Vidya Balan in the lead role, I knew it's going to be a film worth watching, and so it was.
The movie begins with Vidya Bagchi (Vidya Balan) who is seven months pregnant, coming to Kolkata from London, in search of her husband Arnab Bagchi (Indraneil Sengupta) who had come to Kolkata for an assignment, and suddenly went missing. After Vidya starts searching for Arnab anywhere and everywhere, she gets only one common answer: Arnab Bagchi does not exist. Appalled and confused, she's hell bent to find her husband, by hook or by crook. Does Arnab Bagchi actually exist? What is the real story? To find out all this, catch 'Kahaani' playing at a theatre near you.
The twist and turns in the story will keep you gripped to it till the end moment, not to mention the cardiac arrests here and there, and when the mystery finally unfolds, I'm sure anyone watching it will be shocked.
Through this movie, Vidya Balan proved it for the gazillionth time that she definitely is a different kettle of fish, who needs no male power, and can carry a film single-handedly. Great job, Vidya! I'm sure many more awards are waiting to adorn your racks.

So, if any of you haven't watched this movie yet, I advice you to go watch it as soon as possible. And I'm sure the people of Kolkata are going to love it slightly a bit more than the others. :) Never has Kolkata been portrayed so beautifully. <3
That's it for today. Do let me know how you liked this movie. Before I leave, here is something else I loved about this movie-
"
Jodi tor daak shune keu na aashe
Tobe ekla cholo re.."

Love,
Sayantani Sarkar.

Women Who Run the World

Sure God created man before woman, but then we always make a rough draft before creating the final masterpiece.
Yes, it's Women's Day today. So, here's wishing a very Happy Women's Day to all you beautiful women out there! :)
To all those women who play multiple roles, and balance all of it so brilliantly. To every woman who is a teacher, doctor or housewife; who's strong and steady, as well as delicate and warm.

^The woman who has been my inspiration since forever; who's taught me the worth of extraordinary imagination. Thank you, J.K.Rowling, I owe you SO much! <3
And to my Mum, who's the woman of my life- Mum, you'll probably never read this, but, I love you, and you know that. :*
If we come to think of it, then we'll notice that women are never really given credit for all that they do. Whereas if it wasn't for women, then the world wouldn't exist. So, to every man out there-treat your woman right. She's a gem whose value and worth should be reciprocated. And to all you women, remember that you're the most beautiful creation of God. So, treasure your beauty, and love yourself, always! :)
Before leaving, here's a small quote that touched my heart-
"You educate a man, you educate just a man. You educate a woman, you educate a society."
And yes, I'm PROUD to be a woman. :D

Love,
Sayantani Sarkar

From the Hogwarts Castle to the Haunted House

Proofs that you have lived on Harry Potter all your life-
While watching The Woman In Black:
1. You find Daniel Radcliffe looking a bit incomplete without his glasses and scar.
2. When you see him in trouble, you feel like screaming "use your wand Harry!"
3. The space around Daniel looks empty without Ron and Hermione by his side.
4. You see him travelling by train, and you yell out "Hogwarts Express!"
5. You hear people in the film calling him 'Arthur', and you secretly say to yourself, "He's Harry. He'll always be Harry, for me. :)"
Yes, the above mentioned points are TOTALLY applicable to me. I've been a Harry Potter maniac since time immemorial, and Daniel Radcliffe was my first crush, but now since it's been ten years, I can easily say that he's my first love as well. <3
So, I went to watch 'The Woman In Black' last week (purely because of Dan, or else I have no interest in watching a horror movie on the big screen). The story wasn't that gripping, but yes, the chilly, spooky scenes here and there definitely took away my sleep for the next few nights. It was pretty weird to see Dan in a new avatar, roaming around in a haunted house instead of Hogwarts, to see his clear forehead without the scar, and needless to say, without Ron and Hermione by his side, it became all the more vague.
But nevermind, Harry Potter, or Arthur Kipps, I love Dan anyway. <3
That's it for now, if there are any Harry Potter freaks out there who share the same opinion, do feel free to share it.

Adios,
The Potter Maniac.

Falling For You, AGAIN!

"Doli mein bithake, sitaaro se sajake, zamane se churake, le jayega.. Saawariya.."
"Tum ho paas mere, paas mere ho tum yun.."

*shaking herself out from the reverie*

I'm sorry, this happens to me everytime I see him. EVERYTIME! Oh, I'm talking about Ranbir Kapoor. Yes, he's someone whom I've loved since the very first promo of Saawariya, and my love for him has increased with each passing second. He smiles, and my world lightens up. He comes on screen, and my heart skips a few hundred beats. Ahem, okay, now it's time I tell you why I'm so besotted by him tonight (as in, ten times more than usual).
It was the 57th annual Filmfare awards tonight, and as it's been from the past three years, Ranbir Kapoor hosted it this time as well, along with SRK. Omg! It was one hell of a night! Their constant parodies, jokes, the 'Leather Lakshmi-Chiffon Chameli' act, and yes of course, 'Mangorita'- all of it left the audience laughing their heads off! And I, like always, couldn't take my eyes off RK! It's like he casts a spell on me everytime he comes on screen. The duo definitely entertained everyone like crazy, but the best part was Ranbir winning a double whammy! :D Yes, he grabbed away the best actor award from the critics as well as from the popular side! :D And left my vocal cords reverberating. You totally deserved it RK! You're truly the Rockstar of bollywood. :) <3 <3
I'm sure it's going to take me a couple of days to come out of the 'RK coma', meanwhile you guys do tell me how you liked the Filmfare awards, while I go back to drooling over My Saawariya. ;)

Loads of love,
Ranbira. :D

A Blah Weekend

Okay, so nothing much has happened in the past two days. No one seems to be interested in coming to college, and obviously I have no interest being alone in the class, talking to the potraits of Shelley and Shakespeare. I was supposed to be meeting a friend of mine today, but unfortunately she sprained her leg and so we had to cancel the plan; thought would watch 'Woman in Black' this weekend, but my Di (my teacher/sister/friend) is kind of caught up, so it'll have to wait till next week. (Yeah, my life is kinda slow paced and dull at the moment)
I was thinking of reasons to step out of the house and the only solution was to go and help Mum with her grocery shopping. (UGH!) Now THAT is definitely the most boring thing in the world! It's something I absolutely despise; but I go with her anyway or else it puts too much pressure on her doing it all alone, and, well, Mum is more important than my 'non-interestedness'. So, I went with her. Now Mum is probably the most organised person in the world. She has a rhythmic way of doing things, and grocery shopping is no different. And since I've been accompanying her in this from quite some time, I've learned the routine as well. So like always, I followed her from one stall to another like an obedient pet. By the way, the grocery shops in Kolkata is the last place you'd wanna be. Or maybe every city is like that in this case. While Mum was busy buying vegetables at a stall, I heard this old age couple negotiating the prices,
(the lady to the shopkeeper): "Bhaiyya, mirchi zara taazi dena, and zyada dena."
(her husband): "Itna zyada bhi mat dena, meri biwi abhi bhi kaafi teekhi hai."
He said it with such a cute smile, and then looked at his wife, who gave him a shy glance. It made me wonder how they would have been in their yesteryears, laughing and romancing: probably some things never change. Our generation definitely has a lot to learn from it's grandparents, especially in the field of love and commitment. Listening to their conversation shooed away my boredom for sometime. After a few more minutes Mum was finally done with the shopping. (And I breathed a sigh of relief)
I hope tomorrow turns out to be a tad more eventful than today. I wonder how the weekend was for all you people. Do entertain me with your weekend stories, if you have any. That's it for today. Have a nice Sunday.

Love,
Sayantani Sarkar.

A Lazy Thursday

Valentine's Day passed away two days ago, but I guess the impact will take time to wear off. Everything around me seems so foggy, mushy and misty. It has been raining incessantly since last night, and rain has this unique ability of changing not just the ambience, but my mood as well. (It makes me lazier than usual.)
It's one of those days when you feel like sprawling on the sofa, reading novels, sipping warm tea or listening to soft music. As for me, I thought it's high time I put my 'create a blog' plan into action, and so I did.
I hope this gloomy, indolent weather gives way to a bright, sunny day tomorrow, or else I'll have to skip college again. (Reason #909 for skipping college.) Before leaving, I'd like to share a poem that I wrote last night under the effect of nostalgia that rain brings along.

Just Another Night

Another rainy night, another memory ride
Smiling through her tears
Trying hard to force the thoughts out of her head
But it all comes alive like never before.

Still wondering what went wrong
The void puzzles her like always
Brooding over the distance she’s covered
Trying to retrace her steps.

The very picture makes her frantic
Her insides begin to churn
His name cuts her through
Like thunder piercing the sky.

Seconds of togetherness
Brought along a lifetime of sorrows
Minutes of the brighter world
Got lost in the tunnel of darkness.

Eyes that were once filled with dreams
Hopelessness now resides in them
The fake smile on her face
Gives no hint of the flame burning within.

Each raindrop is a memory
And memories aren’t like dirt in the rain
They might fade away a little
But the scars will forever remain.

Sunrise is not far away
She knows it’s time to put on the mask again
For life can get merciful
The nightmare might become a fairy tale again.

So, that's it for today. To all you people in Calcutta, wish you a happy rainy day. And to the rest, hope the day goes well.
Love,
Sayantani Sarkar.
